The original, 1-page short story version of
THE BIG FIGHT

(writing on this story began 24-Nov-1976)
The original draft was written on a mechanical typewriter, single-spaced,
with arbitrary margins, before I'd learned about those pesky little things
called "paragraphs." All spellings, punctuation, capitalizations,
colors, etc. are as in the original.
Unfortunately, without scanning it in and presenting an image, I can't really
convey all the typewriter overstrikes I had to slog through in the original.
You have been warned.
One day, I got in a fight. and this is how it came out: POW! POW! BAM! ZING!
ZING! BOOF! AAAAAAK!! PUNCH! (ABRIDGE! ABRIDGE! ABRIDGE!) SLUG! SLUG! BAM! BAM!
BAM! OOOOOOF!! BIFF! SOCK! B.O.!!! OW! OW! *! ***!! **! 7 AT 1 BLOW!! DASH!
SLUG! SLUG! BITE! HAIRPULL!!
BIFF! POW! BOP! WHAM! BOOM! BOOM! BOOM! BASH! MASH! SMASH! GLUNT! kaPOW! SLAM!
BIM! BAM! BOOM! ZIP! ZOK! zzzZZZWAP!!; & I lost.
THE END!!!
Author's notes from 2014:
- The influence of the Adam West Batman TV series on this story should
be obvious.
- (ABRIDGE! ABRIDGE! ABRIDGE!) was a sly reference to a pencil-written script
by one of my 6th grade classmates. It said something like, "EDITOR: abridge,
abridge, abridge ... whew, for a minute there, I thought this was going to be
too long!"
- Although the manuscript for this story was 3-hole punched, I didn't see fit
at the time to include it in my Bumblings of a Cosmic Rut collection. I
can't imagine why....
