Henry Fusion was born to the rich and powerful Fusion family, but didn't understand what that meant until his teenage years. When he finally talked to his dad about it, he learned that his dad was a "power person." His dad never explained whether than meant he was a mafia don, or a connected politician, or someone people came to for favors.
He decided to distance himself from such a life by striking out on his own, working his way through school by washing cars and delivering packages. When given the offer to work with a shady type and become rich, or forming a struggling rock band to have fun with with his friends, he chose the latter. The band chose to play ... fusion music.
One day, he and his band were playing at a big event in New York City, when the venue was attacked and gunshots were fired. Henry dove for cover with a drink still in his hand. He poked his head up to see what was happening, and a stray gunshot parted his hair. The scene was so chaotic that he didn't see the pill land in his drink, and he imbibed it a few seconds later.
Henry and his band managed to escape, and to his great surprise, he discovered that he could fire nuclear fusion blasts. He kept it a secret from everyone except his bandmates. But whoever made that mysterious pill knew who all was in the venue that night, and that list wasn't large.
